Barry Farm Masterplan
Barry Farm is a neighborhood in SE Washington DC with a long history of isolation from the city. In 1868 Councilman James Barry sold a portion of his land to the Federal Bureau of Refugees to house refugees of slavery. One-acre lots were sold to families to build 2 room houses.
Many well-known black leaders lived in Barry Farm.

Redevelopment of the site will include 432 affordable housing units for DC families and outdoor spaces including a walking trail with signage telling the story of the neighborhood’s historical significance.
